This painting demonstrates how Domestic workers are trapped and isolated from the world they once lived in.
For this unit which is challenged based learning, we looked at Human Rights within Malaysia and looked at all the different variety of topics. We came to a vote and decided to focus on Domestic Workers, as are prioritized topic for the unit.
Domestic Workers are people who, for instance, cook, clean, drive, basically they are the workers who work for you in your house. I believe the relevance of Domestic workers is very important, as they work extremely hard to ensure we have a good lifestyle, but still over 300000 and growing,Domestic Workers live in Malaysia and are being treated unequal. Such severe consequences have emerged from Domestic Workers having made the most slightest mistake.
The most shocking factual part of this topic, was how badly the consequences were, when they even just made such a small mistake. Abuse, torture, unsuitable living conditions, garnish of salary would be the four major consequences that stood out in most of the cases, but it was to such an extreme which gave me such a shocking and dreadful feeling.
"After one-and-a-half years, her employer started punishing Sarah for simple things like not folding the towels according to how the employer wanted, or if she went to bed early after completing all the household chores. Sarah’s working hours started at 5am and only ended at midnight daily.
The 25-year-old was also deprived of food and made to sleep the entire night next to the doghouse outside. She was also beaten on the face with a belt buckle and made to kneel on the floor while her employer kicked her face repeatedly while wearing stilettos."

This story explains and gives reason to the shocking and dreadful felling in which I experienced, as Sarah lost her basic Human Rights and was physically abused to such an extremity, in which I was at such a terrifying despair. My whole thoughts on Domestic Workers had increased more, as I was so keen on reading to find out if she had concluded in a positive outcome, which she did.
This concludes, my thoughts, of how I feel about this topic, and how it has rapidly had a vast impact on my knowledge of Domestic Workers, and am keen to see where head next with this project.
